One thing I have always envied is the way Claire Huxtable could stop a train with her “look.” Her kids knew when they were in trouble when they saw “the look.” I have no such look…I asked my kids. They said they can tell in my “tone.” I don’t know if that is my shrill tone – when I am losing my patience – or my maniacal tone – when I am losing my mind…either way, I would prefer a look.
I asked the boys to help me develop a look. I tried different ways…none resulted in the desired effect. They just laughed harder. (It’s a tough crowd.) They tried a couple on for size, but they only looked scared, confused or constipated. I am not going to give up…I think that this is a skill that I should master and I will be a better parent as a result.
